Why do you have regular pedicures? In addition to responsible nail care, you may enjoy the relaxation benefits of pedicures or want an occasional luxury. But do you know that the relaxation benefits of pedicures can make you healthier? Let me explain… I had the honor to meet and be treated by a chiropractor named Clayton Patterson in the Lake Stevens, WA, area. One day he was trying to explain the benefits of relaxation to me:
He had me clench my fist and look at it. He explained that with my fist clenched, blood and lymph could not flow. As I opened my hand, I could see the restored blood flow change the color of my hand from white to red. When blood is not freely circulating through our bodies, cell function is less than optimal.
Cells are the building blocks of life in our bodies. When they can’t freely move, they can’t eat, reproduce, or eliminate waste the way they must do to thrive. Lymph must flow “unrestricted” to eliminate waste effectively in our bodies.
When you have tension anywhere in your body, it's like that clenched fist. In that area of tension, circulation - and thus blood, cell, and lymph function - is hindered or restricted. My doctor explained to me that if my body is holding tension anywhere, be it in the muscles, the nerves, or the organs, there is a system breakdown and the result is pain and sometimes disease. He told me to do what it takes for me to keep myself “open,” so my blood and lymph can do their jobs.
Staying Open
I had heard before about the need to keep our bodies “open,” but I didn’t really understand it until I had the explanation about the clenched fist. When I clenched my fist during my conversation with Dr. Patterson, I thought back to clenching my fist when donating blood, where the purpose is to stop the flow of blood and then release it.
So – what does it take for you to stay “open,“ to release the “fist” from your nerves, your muscles, your organs? Perhaps for you, it is taking a yoga class, simply stretching for a time each day, taking a walk, listening to beautiful music, weight lifting, or a nice warm bath. Maybe it is touch services such as massage, reflexology, skin and hair treatments, or pedicures and manicures. Most people tell me that when they have a pedicure, they look forward to the foot massage most of all.
Added Relaxation Benefits Of Pedicures with the BioMat
If you enjoy foot massage, you may want to experience the two-hour luxury pedicure. At about the hour mark, you will move to lay down on the infrared BioMat for the massage portion of your pedicure. The massage includes moisturizing from the bottom of your feet to your knees, an introduction to reflexology, and the healing warmth of infrared rays while listening to soft music.
Scientific studies have proven that infrared stimulates circulation, lymph, metabolism, and the endocrine system, and also alleviates the pain of arthritis, muscle aches, chronic fatigue, and fibromyalgia. The FAR infrared rays emitted from the BioMat penetrate the body 6-7 inches, heating the body from the core. As your body heats – the mat heats.
It is not a heating pad. Heating pads heat up and warm the body from the outside. Infrared heats the body from the inside. It is a relaxing and warming experience you don’t want to miss!
I have a working relationship with Golden Bough Day Spa. When you receive a facial from the Golden Bough menu, you also receive the added benefits of infrared. For the entire time of the facial you will be lying on the infrared BioMat.
So – go out there and have a wonderful day and stay “open!” No clenched fists allowed!
